Prolapsed bladder
Jul 29 2007, 10:53 PM EDT
I had a fourth degree laceration with my second delivery. It was a forceps delivery. Since then, I have had problems with bladder and bowel control. I was diagnosed with a second degree cystocele and first degree rectocele about a year ago. I haven't had any problems with them until about a month ago. During my last period, I was changing my tampon and noticed a large bulge coming from my vagina. I also had lower back pain and cramping, which has continued since I discovered the bulge (which is my bladder prolapsing). I was wondering how many women have significant discomfort with a second degree cystocele, what is the cause of the discomfort, and why is this considered and elective surgery if one is having discomfort. I have had significant discomfort for the past month and my urogynecologist has dealt with the whole situation very passively. I am very discouraged, have been on pain medication for over a month, and I wonder why I must wait so long to get help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 8  out of 9 found this valuable. I am 33 years old ans have a 3rd degree prolapse bladder which also pulled my uterus down. I had surgery over a year ago by a gyn doctor which is recommended better for this problem. I had the stitch surgery and it however did not stay. But i can say that prolapse has caused me lots of discomfort and pains cramps and lower back pain so yes it is part of the process i guess you could say. if you are in your younger years and decide on surgery go with the sling or mesh procedure because i have found out that most people that have the stitch surgery does not stay. and have them go through the abdomin if you plan on having more childeren because i have now found out that the vaginal incision can complicate another delivery which i am finding out to late. So i recommend you to see a ob/gyn doctor. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

Hi-
I am 31 and I had a terrible bladder injury after I gave birth. The nurses and my OB let me go home from the hospital when I was in pain and they did not measure my urine. I had to go to the ER two days later and almost died due to the amount of fluid in my bladder. They drained 4.5 liters in the hospital and 2.5 liters came out later at home in the foley catheter. That was nearly 12 pounds of urine trapped in my bladder. The catheter stayed in for two weeks, and then I had to see the urologist. I have been on bladder training for amost two months. I have to try to go on my own, and then insert a small mini- catheter into my urethra to drain the rest. I now have problems with bluging tissue which I believe is my bladder. I also have discomfort along with back cramps. I am upset by the way my OB and urologist seem to pass the buck when it comes to taking the next step to fix my bladder. My OB is not seeing patients because she is having problems with her 4th pregnancy. SO, I am trying to get someone to diagnose me with a prolapsed bladder. It is terrible that I was a very healthy, active person before and during my pregnancy, and yet the doctors are so passive about helping me return to my normal self. I guess I have to become irrational during my next appointments to be heard. I would love to hear some advice!

Check out the Kegelmaster. Check w/ your doctor before you purchase one to make sure it's okay to use. Get one w/ a money back guarantee. Check w/ the urologist to see if it would do harm. Google Kegelmaster to learn as much as use can. Good luck and swift healing. Do you find this valuable?

I was told we need to consult a specialist in pelvic floor reconstruction...a referral from your OB/GYN. Do you find this valuable?

Hi,

I had a fourth degree laceration with my 2nd daughter. From that point on, I was incontinent - bladder and often my bowels. I met with a urogynecologist after my bladder prolapsed and was hanging out of my uterus. I was in pain, most of the time, and was unable to function normally. If I was on my feet for too long, I would be in pain.
After about of month of going to the doctor and having testing, I FINALLY had surgery. I had the mesh surgery that they do through your vagina. He fixed my cystocele and rectocele.
So far, I have been in heaven. I had the surgery in August of 2007. I have not gone to the bathroom when I haven't wanted to since. It has been amazing.
The success rate is not 100%, but I have been happy since I've had it done.

Good luck,
Alison

Sorry to bother you again, but find a urogynecologist. Where do you live? Maybe I can help you find a good one.

You need to find a urogynecologist. I had one who did my surgery back in August '07 for a proloapsed bladder and rectum. It has been very successful. Let me know where you are from and maybe I can help find a doctor that you need to see.

Thanks,
Alison

Anyone with a cystocele or rectocele - prolapsed bladder/rectum, needs to see a urogynecologist. I had surgery to fix both a cystocele and rectocele, with mesh, and have been totally satisfied with the surgery. I haven't had one accident since the surgery!! An OB/GYN doesn't have enough experience in this type of problem to fix it correctly.

Thanks,
Alison
