HPV positive test and abnormal cells
Feb 9 2008, 5:24 PM EST
Last week, I went for my yearly pap test at the OB/GYN. I had my son almost 7 months ago and it was time for my yearly. Last year, my pap was normal. This year, the doctor called and said that I had an abnormal pap test and they had sent it away for HPV testing and it came back positive. I am going in for a colposcopy next week and am very nervous. What does this mean? Do I have cervical cancer? What do I do now? Do you find this valuable?

Oh Honey, this is a talk you should be having with your doctor. There is a terrific website with information about HPV at: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/HPV. It gives terrific information and I think can answer a lot of your questions.

I have one question in my mind though. If your last pap test was normal and you now have an abnormal pap test, how did you get the virus between your first test and the latest test. Please ask your doctor that question.

And let us know how your colposcopy turns out.

Hugz for enduring as bravely as you are.
